#14 The 3 Tests of Life – Part 1
It is said that in order for there to be a Life Purpose, there first must be a Purpose Giver.
It is also said that in order for someone to find their Life Purpose, they must endure 3 tests, so named: Deathbed, Fortune and Mirror*.
The first test, the Deathbed test, is a powerful technique to help resolve some of the life-changing issues you might be facing at this moment, in particular the issue of your Life Purpose – Why am I here?
1. The Deathbed Test**
Go to a quiet place where you are not likely to be disturbed. Once settled, close your eyes and imagine yourself in the future to the time in years/decades ahead when you are about to die. You may wish to visualise yourself as an elderly person on your deathbed surrounded by loved ones, family and friends.
Take deep, slow breaths. Now visualise that you only have 10 breaths remaining before passing to the Beyond. As you do, pay attention to your thoughts and feelings. Are you at peace? Are you angry? Do you feel scared?
Let these emotions pass and concentrate on your past (which is now). Ask yourself questions such as: ‘Am I happy with the life I have led?’ ‘Am I in love with the partner/wife/husband that I have chosen to spend all these years with?’ ‘Do I have any regrets with the things I didn’t do or the choices I have made?’
Pay attention to your emotions and feelings, particularly powerful emotions that are trying to bring themselves to your awareness – frustration, anger, fear, regret, despair, disappointment, shame. Do not judge these emotions. Let them arise with no reaction on your part. Just observe them.
Then, once their power has faded, try to understand the message that they have been trying to communicate. Is there something in your current life that you feel you should be doing? Are you procrastinating over a particular decision? Is there a person you need to forgive or ask forgiveness? Is your career the right one for you at this time?
Aim to uncover answers in the 4 categories of Love, Inspiration, Forgiveness, and Enlightenment (LIFE).
Once you are ready to emerge from this visualisation, take 3 deep, long breaths and slowly open your eyes.
